The editor, Bronwen Armor

Bronwen has been a professional copywriter and editor for over 36 years. A former PR consultant and event director, she has worked in London, Bristol and Wales and moved to the Gers towards the end of 2020 with her husband Gerrard, two dogs and a large cat.

The arrival of crazy Covid had provided the couple with an enforced break from running a village pub in Mumbles on the coast of southwest Wales. And so, what began as a mini adventure dipping their toes (and paws) into French waters, quickly became a permanent move.

“We had heard about the Gers from Terry Wogan. We didn’t know Ole Tel personally (sadly) but had read a quote in a national broadsheet where he waxed lyrically about the area and ironically, didn’t want too many people to know about it.

“We fell for the Gers almost instantly, the beautiful countryside, sense of space, pretty houses and hilltop villages and where you get a lot more for your money than in the UK.

“We also felt sure that we weren’t moving to a rural backwater but an interesting environment rich with creatives and other adventurous, friendly types making the most of great restaurants, cheap but good wine and lovely food.”

Today, her role as editor of GasconyLIFE draws on her love of property, interiors and passion for good copywriting and storytelling.

She’s also able to apply her own experience of relocating to France to help others. Searching for ‘the perfect property’ for example, buying it then renovating it, and generally settling in whilst in her case, adopting many more animals including four alpacas.

You, the people of the Gers!

Everyone’s got a story and that’s one of the joys of moving to a new country or part of France and meeting new people. So often we find ourselves asking questions like ”why did you choose the Gers" and “what made you move to France”?

As to the answers, there are similarities of course - “I sold my business and fancied an adventure” or “it was always a dream of ours every since I was a kid and every year we’d travel around France camping”. Whatever the reason, it’s fascinating discovering what drew couples, singletons and entire families to Gascony and what they do (and don’t) do for a living.

If you’ve a story you’d like us to tell, a business or hobby you’d like more people to know about, or an insight into a particular place or lifestyle experience, please get in touch.

You may be a budding writer or poet and would like a place to share your jottings and creative literary prowess in which case, that’s another reason to drop us a line.
